In one of the more lively and absorbing programmes of this current series, Alex Kingston, star of ER, and Dr Who, discovered her early 19th Century Anglo-Jewish roots.

Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to locate a record of the marriage of Eva’s parents, Michael and Elizabeth Braham, but we intend to pursue our research, It was impossible not to relish Alex’s positive reaction to her discovery of Elizabeth’s colourful past and the strong-minded way she faced her early widowhood, at a time when it would have been normal for women in her circumstances to sink into poverty and an untimely death. Instead of the Workhouse, Elizabeth died in 1874. aged 73, the owner of a number of West End properties worth several thousand pounds.
