Montague Samuel was created a Baronet of Swaythling in the County of Southampton on 23 Jun 1894 and raised to the peerage as Baron Swaythling in the County of Southampton in 1907.
He owned the land in Edmonton now known as Montagu Road, which was presented to the Federation of Synagogues as a burial ground.
Mr Simon Attia late of Mogador Morocco died at Grand Bassa, Liberia, West Coast of Africa and was temporarily buried near one of his warehouses. His son Haim made arrangements for his remains to be brought to London. The remains arrived at Liverpool on the S.S. Beni on 2nd Jun and were buried the following day.
