Colonel Edward Nathaniel Henriques was born in March 1852, appointed a Gentleman Cadet in February 1870 and commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in September 1872. Posted to the Malay Straits in late 1875, he served with an R.A. Detachment in Sunghu Ujong throughout the Perak operations, gaining advancement to Captain in October 1881 and to Major in early 1889. During this latter period he served on Malta and in India, but finished his career with the Garrison Artillery, Southern Division at Staff H.Q. in Portsmouth.
